Eagle Area Community Plan Update
Plan Overview
The Town of Eagle and Eagle County are revising and updating the 1996 Eagle Area Community Plan, which is also a cooperative planning effort between the Town and County - unique in that it is adopted by both entities. This plan went on to win several planning awards and guide growth and development in Eagle for over ten years. Since the development of Eagle Ranch and several new projects near the interstate, the Town has changed significantly and the plan is in great need of updating. The primary reasons for revising and updating the Community Plan are the pace at which the community is growing, the arrival of a new deomographic in town, and it is simply time to update the plan as more than a decade has passed since its initial adoption.
The Eagle Area Community Plan Update is a cooperative effort between the Town of Eagle, including staff and citizens, and Eagle County as the planning area comprises areas both in and out of current municipal boundaries.
The process of updating the plan began in January 2007 with the appointment of a 17-member Citizens Advisory Committee. To date the planning process has involved the following:
- a public visioning meeting where members of the public provided their input on community character, values and issues;
- a summary document of public input; draft goals, policies and strategies;
- a public meeting to review draft goals, policies and strategies;
- approximately a dozen meetings with the Citizen Advisory Committee.
The Eagle Town Board of Trustees finished reviewing the Eagle Area Community Plan update in January 2009 and gave their comments to the Eagle Planning & Zoning Commission and Eagle County Planning Commission to finalize the Plan. Each Planning Commission has been reviewing the Plan since February 2009 and analyzing it chapter by chapter until all corrections have been made.
